Have Your Chips and Eat Them Too

You can be healthy and eat chips too. Yes. You read that right.

I’ve been on a number of exclusion diets and at one point was avoiding 25+ foods including the big dogs themselves: gluten, corn, eggs, and dairy. Lunch time would come around and I would sadly look at my plate and feel like something was missing. It just wasn’t the same. A girl’s gotta have her chips.

And so began my hunt for ones that would make the cut. My criteria? They had to fit within my diet restrictions and they had to taste good. After all, who wants to eat chips that taste like cardboard or styrofoam? I mean, I’m willing to compromise my taste buds when necessary but I gotta draw the line somewhere.

I can happily report that there are a few great brands that exceeded my expectations on taste and texture! So let me save you hours checking ingredients and money wasted on trying to find chips that live up to the name.

These brands are by far my favorite because they have few ingredients (that you can actually understand) and contain no gluten, corn, artificial flavors, or preservatives. And the best part? You don’t have to break the bank to have them. That’s what I call a win, my friends.

My husband, who is not on any special diet, actually now prefers these out of his own free will! So for all of you chip lovers out there, there is still hope for you! You can have your chips and eat them too.

Beanitos White Bean Chips (aka corn free tortilla chips)

I was surprised by how awesome these are. They have a nice flavor, are light and crispy, and serve as a great substitute for tortilla chips. These are actually so close to the real thing that my husband started asking me to buy these over regular Tostitos. Needless to say, I had to pick myself up off the floor.

Benefits: 5 ingredients, non GMO, no MSG, low-glycemic.

Beanitos Black Bean Chips

These are my second favorite bean chips. They pair great with guacamole! A little tougher than their white bean counter-part but still just as yummy.

Benefits: 5 ingredients, non GMO, no MSG, low-glycemic.

Terra Sweet Potato Chips

My Mom bought Terra Beauregard Sweets from Whole Foods and we ate two bags in a week! Oops. These are nice and crunchy with just enough salt to make them flavorful. I personally prefer the non-crinkled kind, but any will work. One thing for sure, you’ll never be short of flavors with this brand.

Benefits: 3 ingredients, non GMO

Organic Kettle Potato Chips

Missing good ol’ fashion potato chips? You’re in luck! The Kettle Brand is certified organic and tastes just like Lays Kettle chips. These chips are slightly addicting and remind me of the old fashioned fries at the county fair! Oh memories….

Benefits: 3 ingredients, certified organic, no MSG, non-GMO
